The Ooh Ahh Point and beyond - South Kaibab Trail

After almost two decades of wedded bliss, this is not the first time I've made it past the Ooh Ahh Point, but it is the first time that I've gotten it in writing.

Can't read the fine print?  Here it is a bit larger just to prove that we made it there!

We started the day, which actually occurred one day before the snowfall - but through the miracle of digital media is posted out of order, at the the South Kaibab trailhead.

We had one good sunny day before the snow set in.

The South Kaibab trail was a bit icy at the trailhead, but thanks to the litigous nature of America today, I received fair warning well beforehand.

Here's a shot of the trailhead as of 18-Feb-12.

Take a dozen steps forward and lean over the edge to the left, look down, and this is what you see....

That's five switchbacks on one icy trail!  After traversing the switchbacks above, the South Kaibab trail "levels out" and it's nothing but a steady pace, the sucking sound of mud, and amazing views.

Once outside of the shadow of the canyon, the trail offered beautiful views and footing!

Again, take a dozen steps forward and look left, and this is what you see....

Finally, we made it to Ooh Ahh Point!

From here, it was all downhill!

The South Kaibab Trail just gets better and better, just like our two decades of marriage....

...and it is as beautiful looking back as it is looking forward....

The color on the rocks as the sun set was amazing.
