Bryce Canyon to Capital Reef National Park

Scenic Utah By-way 12 is such a beautiful road, it has a web site devoted to it.

Some of the high points included driving over the Devil's Backbone, a curvy section of road with steep drop-offs on either side and no guardrails...

...and stopping in Boulder for lunch and a detour down the Burr Trail (Route 100) to play in some easily accessible slot canyons.

The drive down Burr Trail towards Capital Reef National Park is amazing, and only surpassed by the drives within Capital Reef itself.

Driving Utah Route 24 over the high country and into Torrey and Capital Reef National Park was no less amazing.  As it was near dusk, we saw wildlife at every turn.  Deer in the forests...

...and elk in the fields.

  1. Wow! I'm almost speechless. These photographs are truly breathtaking. I can only imagine what it would be like to see it for real.
