USA is no longer "land of the free" - WaPo OpEd

With humble apologies to the Greatest Generation that sacrificed much to preserve our freedoms, and then quietly slipped into retirement without a fight as they were stripped away by our own government of Baby Boomers, here is a must-read opinion piece from the Washington Post.

In short, the list of powers gained by the US government since the "war on terror" began include:

1.  The U.S. Government can assassinate US citizens
2.  The U.S. Government can hold you in jail indefinitely without trial
3.  The U.S. Government determines if your right to trial is granted you in military or civilian courts
4.  The U.S. Government has greatly expanded use of secret evidence in trial against you
5.  Agents of the U.S. Government cannot be tried for war crimes
6.  The U.S. Government is making increasing use of secret courts
7.  Companies that assist the U.S. Government with surveillance and violation of other constitutional rights are protected from judicial review
8.  The U.S. Government can monitor its citizens, including through the use of GPS devices, without court approval
9.  The U.S. Government can take you into custody and then ship you to a foreign country for interrogation

The loss of the above rights started under Bush and the Republicans, but Obama and the Democrats have taken us even farther down the road.  Dare I say it again - meet the new boss, same as the old boss? 

Quit kidding yourself, Americans!  You are sheeple under the heel of an increasingly intrusive police state that exists to protect the plutarchy!
